As 2nd quarter results are published, declines in advertising revenues are expected to be in the range of 10% over the 2009 1st quarter dismal results.

The GM bankruptcy will impact both the 2nd and 3rd quarters which are usually strong for auto advertising.

More layoffs in the news business are expected as financial results come in.

In the meantime, the Boston Globe has achieved $10 million in savings through staff compensation reductions and other cutbacks. The New York Times, which owns the Boston Globe, has demanded another $10 million in cost cutting or they threaten the Globe will be closed.

The Boston Newspaper Guild, representing editors and staff, votes today on another $10 million in cost cutting from their compensation.

The Boston Globe is expected to lose $85 million in 2009.
